When you look at the KTM 390 Adventure, the very first thing that comes to mind is that it's little, but stout. They say that big gifts come in small packages and that couldn't be any further from the truth with this particular example. As a matter of fact, this little bike packs a very big punch. If the only thing that you're seeing is its relatively small size, then you're missing out on everything that the bike is really all about. Fortunately, you will probably change your outlook by the time you're finished reading this, as we're about to take a closer look at the bike and why it's something that could potentially become one of the most well-loved bikes of all time.
Performance That Surprises
Obviously, the first thing that you're likely to notice when you look at this bike is that it can't possibly weigh very much. As a matter of fact, it's empty weight is exceptionally low, only about 390 pounds. By the same token, it has a single cylinder engine that's capable of producing 373 cc. Even if you don't know a great deal about motorcycles, you already know that this bike has got more than enough power to do just about anything you want to do with it. It was built for the purpose of going on off-road adventures and it handles that purpose very well, indeed. In addition to an engine that's more than capable of handling anything you throw at it, it's got brakes that are larger than most and heavy-duty suspension so you don't feel like you're being beaten half to death every time you get on a rough trail. As a matter of fact, this particular bike is practically designed to go over rough trails with relative ease. When compared to other bikes in its class, it has a tendency to outshine them again and again. One of the most beautiful things about it is that it's very simplistic in its design, yet it has the amenities that really matter. You're not going to find luxury items on this bike, to be sure. What you will find is a powerplant that delivers and an electronics package that helps you control the bike in the most effective manner possible. If you're a dirt bike purist who wants nothing to do with those electronic control systems, it's important that you give this bike a chance before you make up your mind. You might think you want nothing to do with it, but the reality of the situation is that you don't know what you're missing until you experience it for yourself. By the same token, that's the way that the industry is going. If you automatically refuse to even take one of these bikes for a test drive just because it has an electronic control system, you're eventually going to run out of options.
Confidence for New Riders
Another one of the things that truly makes this bike special is its versatility. More often than not, motorcycles that work well for new riders aren't exactly the most fun to ride for someone who has more experience. By the same token, those bikes that experienced riders love so much are often an absolute nightmare for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience themselves. Surprisingly, this bike works well for both camps. It has a clutch that is more forgiving than most, along with traction control for the rear wheel and ABS brakes. All of these things make it a standout for new riders who don't have a lot of experience and can easily get themselves in trouble. The bike has a high degree of responsiveness and it can take on some of the most difficult trails you can imagine, yet it's also forgiving at the same time. The fact that it has as much power as it does and it's capable of taking on some of the roughest trails you can imagine appeals to riders who are far more seasoned. The fact that you can take it on those trails, even as a relatively new rider, without getting yourself into serious trouble means that it appeals to novices as well. You can probably count on one hand the number of bikes that are capable of successfully catering to both the experienced rider and the novice. A dirt bike that's capable of attacking the roughest trails, yet is forgiving enough for a brand new rider to use safely is almost unheard of. That fact alone sets this motorcycle apart from everything else on the market.
Improving on Quality
It's worth mentioning that this particular bike isn't brand new. In fact, it's been around for a couple of years now. What makes this one special is that they have improved on what was already one of the best off-road bikes in existence. These improvements come in many forms, not the least of which include wheels that are capable of taking more punishment than its predecessor, along with the aforementioned larger brakes and traction control systems. All of this comes together to help the bike perform at its best, even under conditions that would practically destroy most other pieces of equipment. When you consider the fact that the engine produces 43 horsepower and approximately 27 ft-lb of torque, it would be hard to pass up for any serious individual. On top of performance that is literally second to none, this is a bike that looks good while it's outperforming everything else on the market. It definitely looks different than most of the other bikes available, especially when you consider the fact that a lot of manufacturers are still locked into the bigger is better mode. It's not nearly as big as a lot of other bikes, but it's outperforming them in practically every manner possible.
