How Judd Apatow Achieved a Net Worth of $150 Million

Judd Apatow

Most people recognize the name Judd Apatow on some level. The truth is, if you own a television, you have probably at least heard his name in passing. Even if you don’t watch a lot of television shows or movies, you probably have some vague idea of who he is. If you are a film buff or you enjoy watching new television shows, there is no doubt you know exactly who he is. This is especially true if you ever watch any of the late night talk shows, as he has been on numerous types of these shows frequently throughout the last several years. One thing that might surprise you is that he has a net worth of $150 million. That’s a huge chunk of change, to say the least. The question is, how exactly did he manage to make that much money?

Getting Started

Judd Apatow got his start in the entertainment industry as a comedian. That has always been where his interests lie, and it’s something that he has worked diligently at throughout the years. Virtually everyone knows that it is not exactly easy to make it in the entertainment industry as a comedian. In fact, it’s one of the most competitive arenas there is. Even people who are truly gifted in their comedy act often find themselves on the outside looking in. Even for the best of the best, it typically takes a long time to truly make a name for yourself. As a result, Apatow worked at this for years, perfecting his act and working in virtually any venue that he could book in order to gain practical experience and get attention, all in hopes of eventually making it big. His hard work paid off and eventually, he became well-known as a top comedy act, something that only a handful of entertainers ever manage to accomplish. For many, this might have been the idea of a top-level achievement but for Apatow, he was only getting started.

Working as an Actor

Largely because of his success as a stand-up comedian, Apatow was eventually tapped to work in both television and film. Over the course of several years, he’s been involved in a number of different roles that have allowed him to try his acting prowess in all kinds of different genres. It’s something that he discovered that he truly loved, so much so in fact that he eventually developed his own production company. While you can still see him in front of the camera from time to time, he spends the majority of his time working behind the camera and allowing others to shine.

His Production Company

Apatow has a production company that is called Apatow Productions. Through that company, he has been involved in the production of dozens of films and television series. Just a few of his more notable titles include television shows like “Undeclared” and “Freaks and Geeks”. Some of his more recognizable film titles include 2005’s “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” “This is 40” (2012) and 2015’s “Train Wreck.” It’s important to remember that he not only receives a portion of the overall profits from these productions, but also royalties associated with them anytime they are rerun. When you consider the sheer number of productions that his company has been responsible for, it becomes a lot easier to understand how he could end up with a net worth of $150 million.

Other Behind Camera Work

Of course, his talents don’t stop at being funny or having a production company that is extremely successful. He also does a lot of other off camera work as a writer and director. Again, this is another way that he adds to his net worth. It isn’t known exactly how much money he makes from his efforts as both a writer and director, but there is no doubt that his talents are in high demand. Just like anywhere else, being in high demand in Hollywood means that you make more money. Therefore, it only stands to reason that he makes a significant amount of money with each project that he tackles at this point.

Real Estate

If all of his activities in Hollywood don’t keep him busy enough, he’s also involved in real estate. In fact, he routinely purchases high-end properties, makes a few changes to them, and then resells them for more money than he paid. He owns several properties that he and his family use, but he has been dabbling in real estate as something of a side hustle for a number of years now. A lot of his deals are done privately, so it’s almost impossible to ascertain exactly how much money he makes from his activities in real estate. However, it is known that he typically only deals with the types of properties that other celebrities would want to own, so it’s safe to assume that he’s made quite a lot of money through his real estate endeavors.

When it’s all said and done, his various activities have allowed him to make more money than most people could ever even imagine having in their entire lifetime. $150 million is a great deal of money. That said, he’s worked hard in order to make that much and he’s been working at it for years. Just like virtually everyone else, he started small and then worked his way up by honing his craft and spending countless numbers of hours doing what he loves. He’s definitely made his money through years of hard work and dedication, proving that it’s still possible to make a lot of money by simply working hard at everything he does. In that, he also serves as inspiration for other people who might be just starting out. This is especially true of those who are starting out as comedians, because that particular arena hasn’t gotten any easier to deal with. If anything, it’s gotten more competitive. Judd Apatow is living proof that if you really love what you’re doing and you stick with it, great things can happen.
