10 Things You Didn't Know about the McLaren 720S

If you're not yet familiar with the McLaren 720S, then the truth is you're missing out. This is a British sports car that's only been in production for a very short time, but it's made plenty of news around the world in that amount of time. When you first lay eyes on it, you might think that you're looking at some futuristic concept car or maybe even something from outer space. It's extremely sleek and it definitely looks like it could drive fast enough to become airborne, giving a whole new meaning to the term sprouting its wings. That being said, there might be a lot of things that you don't know about this automobile. Below are 10 of the most important things that you will probably want to know if you love cars or anything else that goes fast.

1. It's only the second car made by McLaren Automotive

Before the 720S, McLaren Automotive was producing the 650S, but eventually opted to stop production of that model in favor of the more recent one. So far, it seems like they made the right decision, as this car has proven to be one that is capable of generating a great deal of interest.

2. It's only been in production or a little over a year

It wasn't until May of 2017 that this car went into production. Unlike many other automotive manufacturers, McLaren decided to take a slower approach to creating their automobiles. That's basically why they decided to end production of the 650S when this one began production. Despite the fact that the car has only been around for a short time, it's already developed quite a following.

3. Obviously, the engine is the heart of this automobile

The engine in this car is a twin turbocharged four liter that's capable of producing more than 700 horsepower. In addition, the car produces over 500 foot pounds of torque, more than enough to get you wherever you want to go.

4. The engine is not under the hood

As a matter of fact, the engine on this particular automobile is located right in the middle of the car. Some people may think this is odd, but it actually seems to work quite well when it comes to weight distribution and handling.

5. It's transmission is unique

Most cars have an engine that's coupled with a 5-speed transmission, but that's not the case here. In fact, the transmission on this automobile is a 7-speed with a dual-clutch, making it respond much more quickly when it comes to going through the gears and accelerating to top speed.

6. The car has tremendous acceleration

If you like going fast, you'll like this automobile. It's capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just over two and a half seconds.

7. It has a top speed that's fast enough to scare most people

If you think its acceleration speed is something to talk about, consider how fast the car is capable of going and then maintaining that speed. The car can reach 225 miles per hour without even breaking a sweat, making it fast enough to compete with most cars on the racetrack.

8. It also gets decent gas mileage

You're probably thinking that it really guzzles fuel with these types of speeds, but it actually gets about 26 miles per gallon. This is due to the ever-increasing technology that makes it possible to get better mileage without sacrificing performance.

9. It handles well

Of course, you can't have a car that goes this fast if it doesn't handle exceptionally well. This car is fairly easy to drive even when it's traveling at some of its fastest speeds. Part of that is

because it has a rear wheel drive system. The other part is because of its sophisticated handling system.

10. You can bet it will turn had no matter where you go

This is a car that does indeed perform as good as it looks. If you want a car that isn't like anything else on the road and you want to turn heads every time you get in it, this is a car that can easily get the job done in both cases. It really does represent a complete package, something that's relatively unheard of in the automotive industry. In short, this car seems destined to become a classic.
