How Nia Long Achieved a Net Worth of $7 Million

Nia Long, an American actress and dancer, was born on October 30, 1970 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. Long is known for her excellent contribution to Black movies, and many people agree that she has contributed a great deal to this genre of film.

Her career has been extensive, but she isn't done yet! She still has many years ahead of her to entertain the world with her impressive and top-notch acting skills. Long currently has a net worth of $7 million, as of 2023. Here is an overview of how she has been able to attain her millionaire status.

Nia Long's Early Days

Nia Long's parents divorced when she was just two years old, which is when she and her mother moved to Iowa City, Iowa, so her mother could attend school in order to obtain a fine arts degree.

At the age of seven, Long moved to Los Angeles, California with her mother, as her mother was planning to remarry. However, the wedding never took place, but Long and her mother remained in LA, as Long was in awe of the educational programs this popular city offered. While attending school in LA, Long began taking classes in acting, ballet, tap, jazz, guitar, and gymnastics.

Despite the divorce of Long's parents when she was two, Long continued to have a relationship with her father, who had moved to New Jersey. In order to spend time with him, Long had to travel back and forth from LA to New Jersey on a regular basis.

Breaking into the Acting Industry

With the assistance of a mentor, who also happened to be actor Todd Bridges' mother, Nia Long broke into acting. Her first gig was acting in the 1986 movie Brat Patrol alongside Sean Astin, Brian Keith, and Tim Thomerson. She was 16 at the time.

The more and more acting gigs the actress landed, the more confident she became in her ability to perform as an actress. It was soon obvious that she was very talented and had a lot to offer the entertainment industry.

Long also played Lisa, Will Smith's character's girlfriend in The Fresh Prince of Belair. Long also landed some more prominent roles in TV shows and movies, like The Guiding LightLove JonesFriday, Big Mama's House, and much more.

Nia Long's Ongoing Acting Career

In 2003-2005, Nia Long became a main character, Officer Sasha Monroe, on the television series Third WatchThird Watch was a television police drama that lasted for a total of six seasons, although Long was only in the final three seasons. Some other TV shows that Long either appeared in or was a main cast member of are: Dear White People, EmpireHand of God, NCIS: Los Angeles, blackAF, The Goldbergs: 1990-something, among many others.

Long would have starred in the 2000 movie Charlie's Angels, but she was told at her audition that she looked so much older and more mature in comparison to Drew Barrymore at the time, so Lucy Liu got the part instead. However, not getting the part in Charlie's Angels didn't stop Long from succeeding, as she went on to star in many blockbuster movies that enabled her to rise to fame.

The actress's most prominent roles have been: Big Mama's House and Big Mama's House 2Boyz 'N the Hood, FridayIn Too Deep, Held Up, Alfie, Are We There Yet? and Are We Done Yet, among others.

Nia Long's Personal Life

Nia Long has never been married, but she does have two sons. She gave birth to her first son, Massai Dorsey II, whom she conceived with actor Massai Dorsey, in 2000. Long and her first son's dad had planned to marry, but those plans fell through and the couple broke up not long after the child's birth.

Long gave birth to her second son, Kez Sunday Udoka, ten years after his brother. Kez's dad is the former head coach of the Boston Celtics, Ime Udoka. Long had made plans to marry Udoka in 2015, but the wedding never happened, and the couple subsequently broke up in 2022.

Long is not currently married, and it is not known whether she's in a relationship.

Nia Long's Additional Work

Despite the fact that Nia Long's career consists of mostly acting, she has dabbled in some other work. In February of 2006, she appeared in Kanye West's Touch the Sky music video. Long also co-starred in as well as directed Ashanti's music video, Baby. During that same year, she also directed Yolanda Adams's music video for the song This Too Shall Pass.

Long also made a guest appearance in the very first episode of the sitcom, Living Single, which aired in 1993. She was the original voice of Roberta Tubbs on The Cleveland Show, but was subsequently replaced by Reagan Gomez-Preston. Long was told that her voice was too mature-sounding to appropriately portray the character, who was only a teen. Long did the first 13 episodes of the show before being replaced.

Nia Long's Charity Work

Long is very involved in charities and causes, and she supports causes that provide relief for women, HIV & AIDS, peace, human rights, health, children, and the environment. She spends as much time as possible giving motivational speeches at Sterling Children's Home in Barbados.

Lack of Legal Issues

Unlike many celebrities, Nia Long has not had any known legal issues. This is great, because if she had legal troubles, then these could possibly become quite expensive and potentially lower her net worth. Therefore, Long's net worth could possibly increase since she doesn't have many issues that require her to spend excessive amounts of money.

Awards and Accomplishments

Nia Long has performed very well in her career so far, and she has been recognized for her accomplishments. Although she was nominated for many more awards than she actually won, she has an impressive list of awards that she did win.

In the year 2000, Long won Star of the Year at the American Black Film Festival as well as the BET Comedy Awards for Outstanding Actress for the film The Best Man. Also in the same year, Nia Long won Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for The Best Man, at the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.

In 2004 and 2005, Long won an award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series at the NAACP Image Awards, for the TV show Third Watch. In 2014 and 20015, Long was awarded Best Ensemble as well as Best Actress for the movie The Best Man Holiday at the American Black Film Festival.

Although Nia Long is in her early 50s, she still has plenty of time to work on increasing her net worth, if that is what she desires. However, if she is content with her current net worth, then it is certainly an impressive one. As long as Nia Long net worth is acceptable to her, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Most people would agree that she's done quite well for herself.
