Tim Janssen is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He is well-known in the world for his work as a CEO and a man of intelligence. 1. He's a CEO

He is the current chief executive officer of a company called Sofar Ocean. The new startup is a tech company that provides tools for ocean exploration and for sensing the aquatic environment. The organization serves conservationists, industry, and ocean enthusiasts from the public and private sectors, according to Crunchbase. The company was co-founded by Janssen in March of 2019. He has served as CEO since its inception.

2. Tim Janssen is a serial entrepreneur

Sofar is not the only company that Tim Jannsen has founded. In March of 2016, he established a company called Spoondrift Technologies. He served as co-founder and the chief executive officer from the launch of the enterprise until March of 2019. He left the executive leadership of the company and relinquished his share of ownership when the tech company was acquired by OpenROV.

The company developed a platform for similar clients as Sofar, with technology to aid ocean communities, enthusiasts, and other professionals to conduct measurements of waves and other environmental factors of the oceans His expertise lies in technology and oceanography. As soon as he left Spoondrift, he turned around and immediately launched Sofar Ocean.

3. Tim Janssen is a civil engineer

His LinkedIn profile reports that Janssen attended the Delft University of Technology where he studied civil engineering and environmental fluid mechanics. He started his academic career as a student in 1993. By 1999 he earned his BS and his MSc degrees, graduating from Delft. He spent time as an exchange student at Queen's University from 1998 through 1999.

4. He is also an oceanographer

Tim Janssen is highly skilled and expert in diverse areas of his profession. In addition to being an executive leader in the business world, he is also a civil engineer and an oceanographer. He attended the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 2001 through 2002 as a visiting research scholar.

From 2002 to 2003, he was a visiting research scholar in the field of physical oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School. He gained intensive hands-on training from these two experiences. Janssen has received several years of training in the field of oceanography.

5. He earned his doctorate

Tim Janssen is a highly educated professional. He returned to the Delft University of Technology in 2001. He was accepted into the fluid mechanics/physical oceanography Ph.D. program at the school. He graduated Cum Laude in 2006 with his Ph.D. degree. Instead of calling him Mr. Janssen, the most appropriate title is Dr. Janssen.

He is putting the knowledge and expertise he has gained to good use by helping to develop technologies and tools that aid in exploration and conservation efforts to help protect the oceans of the planet. Janssen spent two years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He served from 2006 through 2008 with ongoing research and training. We can infer from this that he is a lifelong learner. He was recognized with a research award from the Research Associates Program given by the National Research Council.

7. Tim was an assistant university professor

Tim Janssen spent nearly four years as an assistant professor and research scientist. He was employed at the San Francisco State University from October of 2008 through July of 2012. His diverse resume includes teaching several assorted courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels in coastal processes and physical oceanography.

While serving as a professor at the institution, he lo served as an advisor for graduate students. He also conducted research and launched a program dealing with upper ocean dynamics during his time there. He wore many different hats when he worked for the San Francisco State University, but he was also actively involved in ocean research, which we can see is among his greatest passions in life.

8. Tim Janssen is a storyteller and author

The Sofar website gives us a glimpse into the heart and mission of Janssen through the works that he has authored. He shares several articles that he wrote to explain the environmental needs of the oceans and how the products that his company provides can provide solutions.
