Aly Orady is the co-founder and CEO of the fitness company Tonal. He’s not your average executive though. Leadership comes naturally to him, but he is also a hands on leader who puts time in the trenches doing much of the hard work, because he’s so good at it. We wanted to know more about this interesting entrepreneur, because he’s made so many huge contributions to the world of fitness, and technology. We learned that he is nothing short of a technical genius. Here are 10 fascinating facts about Aly Orady that you probably didn’t know.

1. Aly Orady struggled with weight issues

Orady shared his story and it details how a realization about his own health led him to develop Tonal. According to Shape, Ally was overweight as a child, and this continued well into his adult years. He experienced multiple health issues that were related to his overweight condition, and at the age of 35, he realized that it was time to make changes. He started working out at a gym, using the equipment for building core strength. This helped him to shed 70 pounds and his health improved drastically. He put his health as a priority over his career for a period of time, but he soon realized that the gym schedule would not allow him to dedicate as much time as he needed for his emerging career as an entrepreneur.

2. Orady invented an at-home fitness system

When Orady realized that there was a serious gap in the fitness industry for people who needed to workout at home, he did something about it. He used his knowledge of engineering and computer technology to create the Tonal system. He developed the workout equipment that could be tailored to meet the needs of each individual using it. He also made it digital to create a modern system for improving health and fitness, so users could track their progress.

3. He started out at HP

Ally began his career at Hewlett Packard. Crunchbase highlighted his interesting career, giving us an overview of his work history. After graduating from college, he was hired at HP as a hardware engineer in 1998. He worked there, designing super computers and other software/hardware for the company, until 2000. He gained a great deal of hands-on experience and while there, he made contributions to the company.

4. He graduated early from high school

According to Inc., Aly Orady was somewhat of a prodigy. While it takes most teenagers years to complete high school requirements, Aly was ahead of the curve. He graduated from high school when he was just 15 years old. Even more impressive, he enrolled in college and earned his first degree by the time he was just 19 years old.

5. Orady’s health issues were serious

Although Orady had become a successful engineer by the age of 35, he would have to take a hiatus from his career to work on his health. The issues that he developed were potentially life threatening and if he didn’t do something to correct his physical condition, the outlook for a long life was bleak. He struggled with type 2 diabetes as well as sleep apnea. His health was failing and he wasn’t even 40 years old.

6. Aly has a solid education

We learned more about Aly’s college education through his LinkedIn page. Aly enrolled in courses at McMaster University. He attended classes from 1994 through 1998. He earned his B.Eng.Computer Engineering degree from the school in 1998 at just 19 years of age. He continued forward, enrolling part time at Stanford University. He worked on his master’s and completed it in 2003, receiving his M.S. E.E.Networking, Computer Architecture degree at the age of 23.

7. He is an inventor

Aly Orady is also a skilled inventor who has helped to secure patents on a variety of inventions in the computer technology arena. He helped to develop Remote graphics Rendering Across a Network method for display of 3D information in 2012, Thin Network Protocol in 2013, Universal Serial Bus Assistance Engine the same year, Video Driver Over A Network in 2014, and several more.

8. He founded Pano Logic

Aly has launched more than one business. Prior to founding Tonal, he co-founded Pano Logic, where his genius in the tech arena became apparent. In addition to being a co-owner he was acting Chief Technology Officer in charge of the development, architecture an patents of the business. He was a member of the board of directors and he assumed multiple roles within the organization. Orady is an expert in computer architecture, networking, virtualization, cloud, and enterprise management.

9. He founded Tonal in 2015

Tonal has only been around for 5 years but it has become a successful company already. It fills a need within the general public for health and fitness. This is particularly true during the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced the closure of most gyms and fitness centers. Now, more than any other time in recent history, there is a need for at home fitness systems and although the quarantine has taken its toll on the health of people forced to stay at home, Tonal provides an option for continuing core strength training and overall fitness.
