Although originally for entertainment purposes only, we've seen that some of them have had a prophetic message and many of the things that we once believed were futuristic and even unbelievable have evolved into modern conveniences through the advancement of technology. In some cases, science fiction has become science fact. We flock to these new fantastical films because they're stimulating and intriguing and they fill our minds with wonder. Science fiction isn't just attractive to nerds anymore. These movies draw in crowds from all backgrounds. Here are the top 20 highest-grossing science fiction films of all-time and their gross profit earnings.

Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace

20. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace - $1,027,044,677

The Phantom Menace is the installment in the franchise series that follows the story of young Annikin Skywalker from the time that he was just 8 years old, and it shows how he came to unite with Qui Gon Jinn and his Paduan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi ultimately becomes his mentor until the time that Skywalker leaves the Jedi to join the dark side. The film was released in 1999.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park stars Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. The curator of the park brings dinosaur experts to his island to verify that the park is safe to be opened to the public as a curiosity venue. Things go terribly wrong as security systems fail and the dinosaurs are loosed on the island, putting everyone in danger. The film was released in 1993 and remains one of the world's highest-grossing science-fiction films.

Rogue One A Star Wars Story

18. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - $1,056,057,273

Rogue One was released in 2016 in a continuation of the space drama and the fight of the Rebel Alliance against the forces of evil which are building the weapon of ultimate destruction known as the Death Star. This segment stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker.

Transformers Age of Extinction

17. Transformers: Age of Extinction $1,104,054,072

This was the fourth installment in the ongoing Transformers film series. Michael Bay directed the film which was produced by Steven Spielberg and Bay. Stars in this film include Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, and Nicola Peltz. Although the critics gave the film a negative review, the box office earnings were sky-high. The film was released in 2014 and made over a billion in gross profits worldwide. Although in the top 20 list, the release failed to keep up with the Dark of the Moon installment.

This film was released in 2011, starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Patrick Dempsey, and John Malkovich. It was the third installment in the film series drawing in crowds upon opening at theaters on June 29th, 2011. It closed on October 13th of the same year.

SpiderMan Far From Home

Spider-Man: Far From Home was released in July of 2019. It features actors Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Jon Favreau and Samuel L. Jackson. The film was ranked high on several genre lists including 3D, Comic Book Adaptation, IMAX Feature Length, and Superhero.

Captain Marvel opened on March 8, 2019, and closed on July 4, 2019. The actors involved in this sci-fi hero film are Brie Larson, Samuel L. Aquaman starred Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, and Patrick Wilson.

Fallen Kingdom is the tenth best moneymaker at the box office, however, it failed to live up to the high revenues made by its predecessor.

The movie was released into theaters on June 12, 2015. It closed on November 19, 2015. This film is among the five best producing films of all time at the box office. Jurassic World followed the hit original Jurassic Park and it even exceeded the high revenues brought in by the film that kicked off the franchise. Jurassic World stars Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Irfan Khan, and Judy Greer. It beat the sequel by five places with regards to revenue generated worldwide during its initial showing to the public.

The gross profits from the Avengers: Endgame were so close to Avatar that there was only a little over a three million dollar difference. When you've gone into the billions, these figures are pretty darned close, but it still brought in more and is, therefore, the number one of all-time. There were hopes that it would exceed the $3 billion mark and break all records, setting a high bar for others to follow, but it fell short of some $200 million and change, but who's counting right?
