How Wolf Blitzer Achieved a Net Worth of $20 Million

Wolf Blitzer

Wolf Blitzer is practically a household name. Even people who don’t routinely watch CNN tend to know who he is. It’s not surprising that he has made such a name for himself, especially when you consider the amount of time he’s put in, along with more than his fair share of blood, sweat and tears.

It was recently reported that he has a net worth of $20 million. That’s certainly nothing to sneeze at. As a matter of fact, it’s not even that uncommon for a journalist of his stature. Perhaps the better question is, how did he do it? It turns out that it’s all been due to old-fashioned hard work. Let’s break it down.

Early Career

Wolf Blitzer has been working in journalism for a very long time. He attended college in New York state in the early 1970s, obtaining first his bachelor’s degree and then his master’s. After that, he moved directly into the field of journalism and that is where he has been ever since. As far as his career at CNN is concerned, he’s been a constant presence there since 1990.

In fact, he started working there roughly around the same time that the Gulf War broke out, something which he covered in-depth. He was always willing to go where others weren’t, even if it meant traveling directly into the epicenter of the fighting. In addition. His work ethic was practically unmatched.

He didn’t mind coming in early and staying late in order to make sure that the piece he was working on was impeccably handled. His hard work did not go unnoticed. In fact, it was largely because of him that the entire network won an award for their coverage of the Gulf War. This landed him a hefty promotion and a better salary to go with it, all by the mid-1990s.

More Acclaim

After his outstanding work covering the Gulf War, CNN wanted him to be on the scene for every major news story. When the Oklahoma City bombing happened in 1995, they sent him to the site of the crime and allowed him to do his job the best way he knew how.

Once again, his work there was outstanding, garnering him even more accolades. Blitzer was quickly becoming the reporter that CNN leaned on every time they wanted to be first out of the gate with something. It’s also worth noting that this was largely during CNN’s hayday, when the network was in its prime. At the time, it was easily one of the most well-respected news networks out there.

As a result, most people considered it an honor just to have a chance to work there. Wolf Blitzer had made it his home and he clearly knew what to do. He was quickly moving up the ranks  as a millionaire, making an impressive name for himself in the process.

The Later Years

By the year 2000, Blitzer had done the one thing that so many up-and-coming journalists hope to accomplish. He had achieved elite status at one of the world’s most prestigious news organizations. Eventually, he was even offered his own show, something that only a handful of individuals ever achieve.

In addition, he has long been the primary political correspondent for the network. If the story is even remotely political in nature, you can bet that Blitzer is at the heart of it. For him, it’s not just about getting in front of a camera and telling a story.

He puts countless numbers of hours in behind the scenes, doing research and uncovering even the slightest angle, things that are often overlooked by other people. As a result, he has become indispensable at the network. This has allowed him to command one of the highest salaries in journalism. That in turn has helped him achieve his net worth of $20 million.

Wolf Blitzer Net Worth

As previously mentioned, Blitzer currently has a net worth of $20 million. That’s a considerable amount of money, to be sure. How exactly has he made it all? As discussed at the beginning of this article, it all comes down to hard work. CNN currently pays him approximately $5 million per year.

Granted, it’s a large sum of money, but he also puts in the time. Blitzer can almost always be found either at the studio or in the field. If he’s not in front of the camera, he’s typically working on a piece in order to get it ready. When he’s not doing one or the other, he’s working on the show he has with the network.

All of this requires a significant amount of time, which is one reason why he makes so much money. The other reason is because he has proven time and again that he can get the job done better than most other journalists. That skill and experience translates to a big bank account.

Blitzer's Achievements

At the end of the day, Wolf Blitzer has achieved the things that many journalists only dream about. He has proven that he has the chops to stick it out, even in the most untenable situations. He does the hard work when others cut corners, giving him the chance to make a name for himself where others fall short.

That has allowed him to make more money than most of the other people in his field. The fact that he makes $5 million per year, coupled with his longevity in the business, means that he has a net worth of $20 million and counting. No one knows when Blitzer plans on retiring, but there is still an opportunity for him to add to his net worth significantly before he actually decides to stop working.

Under the right circumstances, he could potentially even double it. There’s also one more possibility to consider. He may decide to do something in retirement that adds to his net worth as well. Many people do, especially when they have become accustomed to working as much as he always has.

Depending on what he chooses to do, it could be a rather significant source of income for him. Who knows how much his net worth might increase over the next several years? It might even end up being more than you think.
