9. Antler Creek Golf Course
Antler Creek Golf Course is proof that a great game of golf needn’t cost the earth. The affordable, "prairie dunes style" course offers a unique experience, while its numerous water features and 73 bunkers make for a challenging, but ultimately rewarding, experience. Voted best new course in 2004 by Colorado Avid Golfer, no visit to Colorado Springs is complete without at least one game on this, Colorado’s longest golf course.
8. Valley Hi Municipal Golf Course
With 18 challenging holes and the kind of service that turns a humdrum experience into a sublime one, Valley Hi Municipal Golf Course makes a very sound addition to Colorado Springs’ golfing scene. Patty Jewett (more on which coming up) is now responsible for the course’s management, something that’s more than evident in the vast improvements the course has witnessed over the past couple of years, along with the immaculately maintained fairways and expansive greens. Expect affordable rates and a truly worthwhile day on the course.
7. Colorado Springs Country Club
Exceptional service? Check. A fun but challenging experience? Check. A stunning location? Check, Check, Check. Colorado Springs Country Club is the kind of course you’ll want to bring your camera, as well as your golf bag. Offering sublime views of beautiful Palmer Park in one direction, and equally breathtaking vistas of Pike’s Peak and the Rocky Mountains in the other, you’ll find it hard to keep your eye on the ball. Which isn’t to say the golfing is any less impressive than the views… each hole comes with five tee options, making it as eminently suitable for novices as it is for experienced pros. The range of services, meanwhile, is well above par, with numerous golfing associations, clubs, and a great range of lessons on offer.
6. Shining Mountain Golf Club
Designed by John Harbottle III, Shining Mountain Golf Club features 4 sets of tees to accommodate all different skill levels, some breathtaking views, affordable fees, a great bar and grille for after game drinks, an excellent pro shop with a fantastic range of lessons, clubs, and programs, and a sublime location. With a list of features that good, it’s little wonder its such a popular venue with tourists and locals alike.
5. King’s Deer Golf Club
20 years on from its opening, King’s Deer Golf Club remains as popular as ever. Despite being a great challenge for scratch golfers, the four sets of tees on each hole makes for an enjoyable experience for all skill levels. The excellent service, range of programs (including a great junior program and YMCA Junior Golf Camp for up and coming golfers), and affordable membership prices, meanwhile, add up to a very attractive package indeed.
4. The Broadmoor Resort
Want award-winning? Then head on over to The Broadmoor Resort, the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star awards. Designed by Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the resort’s two exemplary golf courses are the icing on the cake of the resorts sumptuous array of leisure facilities and amenities. With wide, tree-lined fairways, well-maintained greens, and some ingenious bunkers, it makes for a challenging but playable game. The truly spectacular view, meanwhile, is worth the membership fees alone.
3. Pine Creek Golf Course
Designed by internationally renowned golf course architect Richard Phelps, the 18-hole Pine Creek championship public golf course is considered one of Colorado Spring’s premier golfing destinations – and for very good reason. Offering an exquisite combination of challenge and reward, it’s a great place to really put your mental and physical skills to the test. With strategically placed bunkers, trees, lakes, bunkers, and 376 feet elevation changes, this is not the kind of course to take lightly…. it is, however, the kind of course that once mastered, will leave you grinning wider than a Cheshire cat.
2. Patty Jewett Golf Course
Of all Colorado Springs’ golfing jewels, Patty Jewett Golf Course is undoubtedly one of the shiniest. In addition to the well-manicured, expertly designed course, the range of additional programs and added ‘extras’ is a treat: as well as offering junior golf camps for little ones, there are special programs for novice female players, and both private and group lessons. It's premier location and stunning views, meanwhile, are almost enough to make you take your eye off the ball… but beware if you do. The course may be fun, but it’s not short of a devilish hole or two. Bring your A-game and your camera, and you’re guaranteed a great time.
