How Jonah Hill Achieved a Net Worth of $45 Million

We expect movie stars to have huge bank accounts. Numbers in the tens of millions or even hundreds of millions would not be surprising. But those numbers are usually for famous action stars in blockbuster films. Jonah Hill is a happy actor with a lot of money, and we will tell you how.

But what about Jonah Hill?

With a net worth of $45 million, Jonah Hill is unquestionably a successful actor. People may not associate him as a comedian the likes of Will Ferrel and Seth Rogan, but he’s no slouch. In 2015 he made his debut onto the Forbes list of highest paid actors. and his career has only gone up from there. If you’re curious about how Jonah Hill turned his stardom into true success, here’s what you need to know.

Who is Jonah Hill?

Jonah Hill was born Jonah Hill Fieldstien in 1983. His family was already in the business of entertainment, with his mother being a costume designer, and his father being a tour manager. He even grew up near Hollywood, in the wealthy neighborhood of Cheviot Hills, where he still resides.

While he didn’t always dream of being an actor, he was already writing plays in college. After experiencing some small success as a playwright, he realized that acting was for him. At the age of 20, he made his acting debut in the film, I Heart Huckabees. From there he moved into small roles in other comedies like The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, and Grandma’s Boy.

What are his movies?

In 2007, Hill got his big break in the film Superbad. The film was a commercial and critical success, and immediately became a classic. It furthered the careers of almost everyone involved, including fellow actor Micheal Cera, and writers Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg.

The film was so influential that it led to a slew of similar, rated R comedies. It still stands as one of the best comedies of the decade, as well as one of the best high school movies. More importantly for Hill, it showed that his acting was certainly up to par. His comedic timing and ability to play off of his co-stars was evident enough to land him even more jobs.

In 2011, he decided to break out of the comedy genre with a more dramatic turn in the film Moneyball. Once again, he proved himself a versatile actor, capable of the range needed to carry a variety of roles. He even received an Oscar nomination for his efforts. His next Oscar nomination came from another critically acclaimed film, The Wolf of Wall Street. The Scorcese film, a biographical account of a famous figure, was a departure from his other work. Nevertheless, he shined alongside co-stars Leonardo Decaprio and Margot Robbie.

Interestingly enough, Hill didn’t actually make a lot of money off of The Wolf of Wall Street, despite it’s obvious success. He received the minimum wage allowed by SAG, stating that he only wanted the opportunity to work with Martin Scorcese.

Hill’s other well known projects include 21 Jump Street, and it’s sequel, 22 Jump Street. Both were commercially successful comedies. Hill actually wrote the treatment for the first film before going on to star as one of the leads, alongside Channing Tatum. Outside of acting, Hill has also lent his voice to a number of successful animated movies. He voiced characters on both Sausage Party, and the successful Lego Movie films. He’s also continued to work as both a writer and producer.

How did Jonah Hill make his money?

One obvious reason for Hill’s wealth is his talent. His acting ability has allowed him to score high-profile projects in a variety of genres. And since so many of his films were box-office successes, it’s easy to see how he could become one of the highest-paid actors. Of course, there are plenty of talented actors who aren’t making as much money. The other key to wealth in Hollywood is fame. If an actor has a fanbase, then it stands to reason they’ll bring in more money at the box-office. Plenty of films include actors not because of their talent, but because people will pay to see their new films.

Jonah Hill may not have the same fanbase as an action star, but many people love him for his comedy. They trust that he does good work, so they’ll pay to see his movies. As such, Hill can command a higher salary than an unknown actor. Of course, the other major factor contributing to his wealth is the fact that he’s not just an actor. A lot of the money in Hollywood is made behind the camera, writing and producing content.

Hill got his start writing plays, so it’s natural that he would eventually carry over that writing talent into movies. He’s also produced some of his more recent projects, like the Jump Street movies, and Sausage Party. By writing, producing, and acting in some of his films, he makes a lot more money than he would otherwise.

As he continues to make money, it stands to reason that Hill has further diversified his wealth. Many celebrities take their money and continue to grow it through businesses and investments. It’s safe to assume that Hill has followed suit with some form of investment. Between acting, producing, writing, and any potential investments, it’s clear how Hill has made his money.

A Worthy Actor

Overall, it’s easy to appreciate the hard work that has led to Jonah Hill’s massive success. He’s gone from an unknown in his twenties, to one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. And even though he’s still in his thirties, he’s already built up his net worth into the tens of millions. He also has body of work in Hollywood that speaks for itself. Surely his future efforts will continue to produce quality work that will lead to even more success.
