However, what was he doing before he developed and perfected this professional passion of his? He was born in California and is the youngest of three kids in the family. His parents were actually quite famous in their own right. His dad is Tom Harmon. Tom was a Heisman Trophy football player in college. He went on to be a successful sports broadcaster. His wife is known as Elyse Knox, who is a famous actress and model. Even Mark Harmon’s two sisters have proven to be quite successful. Kristin Nelson has passed away, but she was an actress. While they did divorce, she was married at one point to Rick Nelson, a famous rock singer. His other sister, Kelly Harmon, is also an actress and model. You might say that celebrities run in the Harmon family. As such, it was only natural that Mark would follow suit at some point.

Originally, football looked to be in the cards for Mark Harmon. He was following in his father’s footsteps. He ended up playing junior college ball for two years in Los Angeles. It was after that point that he finally got offers from several major universities, UCLA being one of them. He would end up being the starting quarterback for two seasons. When he was a senior, he was given the National Football Foundation Award that is designated to players for All-Round Excellence.

That would be for one episode of Ozzie’s Girls. That would then be following by a guest appearance on a variety of shows included Adam 12, Police Woman, and Emergency!. Moving On

It was in 1980 that Mark Harmon really began to become a household name. He would be granted a regular role on Flamingo Road, which was a popular soap opera that aired during prime time. That show would go on for two seasons before being canceled, even though it had surprisingly good ratings. His appearance there, however, would get him appearances on a number of other shows that would keep his name in the minds of viewers across the country. It was in 2002 that Mark Harmon was invited to play the role of a secret service agent on The West Wing. This was one of the most popular shows on television at the time.
