How Ricky Martin Achieved a Net Worth of $120 Million

RIcky Martin

Ricky Martin is a singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and author who began his career in 1984. He is often referred to as the King of Latin Pop or the Latin Music King. Although he has sung in a group and collaborated with many other artists, he has predominantly enjoyed a career as a solo artist. Ricky Martin is now one of the best-selling and most influential Latin artists of all time. Now, Ricky Martin’s net worth is $120 million, and here is how he became so wealthy.

His Early Life

Enrique Martin Morales, better known as Ricky Martin, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on December 24, 1971. He has four brothers and one sister. His parents divorced, and he split his time between University Gardens and San Juan. When he was a child, his father saw a newspaper advertisement about auditions from commercials, so Martin started appearing for commercials while he was still a child. By the time he was 11, he had appeared in 11 commercials for products including toothpaste, restaurants, and soft drinks.

Singing in a Band

In 1983, Martin auditioned to become a member of the boy band Menudo. He was just 12 years old at the time, but the record executives were impressed. Just a month after joining the group, Martin made his debut performance at a performing arts center in San Juan. Martin has mixed feelings about his time in the band. While he enjoyed performing with them, he found the strict management and the busy schedule difficult. Eventually, Martin left the group in 1989 at the age of 17. By that time, he had recorded 11 albums with Menudo. He then spent a brief time performing in musicals.

Ricky Martin’s Solo Career in Music

Martin embarked on his solo singing career in 1990 when he signed to Sony Discos. He was so keen to release an album that he did not read the contract and later discovered he would only earn one cent for every album sold. Although he says the contract was unfair, he acknowledges that it was the beginning of a phenomenal career. His self-titled debut solo album was released in 1991, and he spent a year touring Latin America to promote the album. Following the success of his debut album, he began working on his second album. He released ‘Me Amaras’ in 1993.

Martin released his third album ‘A Medio Vivir’ in 1995, followed by album number four ‘Vuelve’ in 1998. He released the single ‘Living La Vida Loca’ in 1999, and this propelled him to international fame. This single is credited with the growth in popularity of Latin American music from 1999 onwards. It led to him releasing his first English-language album ‘Ricky Martin.’ It remains his best selling album, as it sold 15 million copies. Since then, Martin has released a further five albums. Most recently, he released ‘A Quien Quiera Escuchar’ in 2015. Since the beginning of his solo career, Ricky Martin has sold more than 70 million records worldwide, which means he is one of the most successful Latin-American artists of all-time.

His Acting Career

After leaving the Menudo, martin spent a brief time working in stage musicals. A television producer spotted him and liked the way he performed. The producer offered him a role in ‘Alcanzer Una Estrella,’ a Mexican telenovela. Martin also joined the cast for the show’s second season and then in a television film based on the series. In 1994, Martin moved to Los Angeles when he landed a tole in the sitcom ‘Getting By,’ which was canceled after two seasons. He then landed the role of Miguel Morez in ‘General Hospital.’ Although he continued to have small roles in television series, his next significant role was not until 2018 when he appeared in five episodes of ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.’

Martin’s Roles as a Judge and Coach

Ricky Martin became a judge of ‘The Voice Australia’ in 2013 for the second season of the televised music competition. He reprised his role as a judge and coach in 2014 and 2015 for seasons three and four. He has also been a judge and an executive producer of the 2015 series ‘La Banda,’ and a coach in the 2019 series ‘Amici di Maria De Filippi.’

Other Works

Martin has published two books. The first was his autobiography ‘Me,’ which was published in 2010. The autobiography was included on The New York Times Best Seller’ list. In 2013, he published his first children’s book, titled ‘Santiago the Dreamer in the Land Among the Stars.’ In collaboration with two music engineers, Ricky Martin launched Martin Music Lab in 2020, says Billboard. One of the company’s aims is to expand the Orbital Audio technology, which is an audio technique that creates an immersive listening experience while using headphones. They will cover all genres of audio entertainment, from music to gaming.

Ricky Martin’s Net Worth

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ricky Martin’s net worth is $120 million. He has predominantly made this money through his career in the music industry. However, he has also made money through television work, writing, and various other ventures.

His Personal Life

Ricky Martin was in an on-off relationship with television host Rebecca de Alba for around 14 years. He then became a father to twin boys, Matteo and Valentino, in 2008 through a gestational surrogate. He spent a period of his life believing he was bisexual before publicly announcing on his website in 2010 that he is gay. Martin began dating Syrian-Swedish painter Jwan Yosef in 2016, and they married in 2018. In the same year as the couple married, they welcomed their daughter, Lucia Martin-Yosef, into the world. They then went on to have a son, Renn Martin-Yosef, in 2019.
