His mother is African-American, and his father is of Dominican descent. He has two older brothers, Jadakiss and Sheek Louch, also rappers. He attended Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, Queens. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended college but dropped out to pursue a career in music. He began his rap career in the early 1990s as a member of the hip hop group The LOX. The group released their debut album, Money, Power & Respect, in 1998. They released two more albums, We Are the Streets and War & Peace Vol. 2 (The Peace Disc), before going on hiatus in 2000.

Personal Life

In 1995, Styles P married his longtime girlfriend, Adjua Styles. The two have two children together. Noah was born in 1998, and Tai was born in 1995 to Adjua from a previous relationship. Styles P served as Tai’s stepfather for the majority of her life. Tragedy struck the family in 2015 when Tai committed suicide. Since then, Styles P has been open about his struggle with depression and has been an advocate for mental health awareness. Styles P is a self-proclaimed “conscious rapper” and vocal about his political views. He has publicly denounced Black Lives Matter and endorsed the 2020 re-election campaign of President Donald Trump. After leaving Bad Boy Records at their request after disagreements with the label, they signed to Ruff Ryders Entertainment. They released two albums, We Are The Streets in 2000 and We Are The Movement in 2002 before Styles branched out on his own in 2002. During the same year, Styles released his debut album, A Gangster And A Gentleman, to kick start his solo career. It was supported by “Good Times,” a hit single that performed quite well, peaking #22 in the US Billboard Hot 100 and #6 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop. The song also received widespread airplay on the radio throughout 2002.

His follow-up album Time Is Money was released in 2006 under Ruff Ryders/Interscope Records and featured production from Swizz Beatz, The Alchemist, and Just Blaze. After leaving Interscope in 2008, he signed to E1 Music, where he released his fifth album Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), and his sixth album, Master of Ceremonies, in 2011. He then released his seventh album Phantom and the Ghost, in 2014, which was supported by the single “I Need War.” In 2015, he made a three-song EP called A Wise Guy and a Wise Guy. In 2016, Styles P reunited with The Lox to release their first album in 16 years, We Are The Streets II. The album reached number 6 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 2018 he collaborated with yet another popular artist, Dave East, to release a collab album, Beloved. In 2020, he worked on his 13th studio album, Ghost Your Enthusiasm. According to Wikipedia, apart from having a successful music career, Styles P is also an entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Juices for Life, a healthy juice bar that started in 2011 in the Bronx. The business has now expanded to Yonkers, and plans are to open more locations in New Rochelle and Brooklyn. Through Juices for Life, Styles P hopes to help urban communities have better access to good nutrition. He believes that everyone deserves to have the option of whole foods, regardless of their financial situation.
