The Top Five Beaches in Barbados

What makes the perfect vacation differs from one individual to the next. While some people want an adventurous holiday spending time trying new activities, others want a cultural experience absorbing the local history and culture. For many people, all they want to do on holiday is relax and enjoy the sunshine. Going on vacation is an opportunity to get away from the stresses and strains of daily life and a beach holiday is the perfect way to do this. Barbados is the ideal location for anyone who is planning to spend the majority of their vacation lying on the beach. Barbados is a beautiful Caribbean island and there are many stunning beaches where you can spend your time, not only relaxing, but also trying out some of the watersports on offer in these popular tourist hotspots. Here are the top five beaches in Barbados.

1. Silver Sands

While there are many amazing beaches along the coast of Barbados, Silver Sands is commonly named as one of the best. In fact, it has been internationally recognized as a world-class beach. It is located on the southern coast of the island and is where you will also find the Silver Sands Resort. This beach is famous for hosting watersports events, especially windsurfing. An annual event called the Waterman Festival is hosted there every February. This competition includes a variety of windsurfing, surfing, and kite surfing events. This festival was first established in 1989. You do not have to visit in February if you want to enjoy these sports yourself as you can do so all year round. In addition to the popular sports, this beach is also known for its beauty.

2. Crane

Although this was once a harbour, this was in times gone by and it is now simply a wonderful beach. Lining the beach are a number of pretty and old resorts, including The Crane Beach Hotel. Crane Beach was once named in the top ten beaches in the world by a publication called ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’. Tourist like to come to this beach to relax in the gorgeous surroundings. If you are a novice to surfing but want to give it a go, then this is an amazing spot for you to try surfing for the first time. The waves are ideal for you to get used to balancing on a board and riding the waves. This sheltered spot is also perfect for swimming.

3. Bottom Bay

Bottom Bay is located close to Sam Lord’s Castle, which is a sprawling mansion. It lies at the base of jagged cliffs that provide an interesting backdrop to the sand beach below. However, it is not a good place for swimming as there is a strong undercurrent along this part of the coast. It is such a popular beauty spot that many private homes have been built nearby by people who want to live close to Bottom Bay.

4. Bathsheba

The verb that best describes this particular stretch of beach is picturesque. Bathsheba is an East Coast fishing village that is known as the surfing capital of Barbados. Although it is only a small village, the beach is a hive of activity. The ‘Soup Bowl’ is the nickname for the perfect surfing spot that is just off this beach, so it is a huge attraction for surfing enthusiasts.
