The 10 Best Credit Cards to Use for Amazon Purchases

credit cards

If you can't resist the occasional shopping spree on Amazon, choosing the right credit card is crucial to maximizing your purchase. Shop around, and you'll find any number of credit cards with purchase protections, extended warranties, cash back, and even Amazon gift cards on offer. If you want an Amazon credit card that rewards you for spending, check out our pick of the 10 best credit cards to use for Amazon purchases.

10. Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card lets you customize your cash back categories according to your spending habits. If you make frequent purchases through Amazon, simply choose online shopping as your top category to earn 3% cashback on all purchases. You'll also earn 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs, and 1% cash back on all other purchases.

9. Amazon Business Prime American Express Card

If your business makes multiple purchases through Amazon.com, AWS, or Whole Foods, the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card makes a good choice, offering a very impressive 5% cash back on each purchase. If you prefer, you can swap the cash back for 90-day 0% APR financing on any eligible purchase. You'll also earn 2% cash back at U.S. restaurants, U.S. gas stations, and on wireless telephone services purchased from US providers, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. There's no annual fee, but you'll need to have an Amazon Prime membership to be eligible. On approval, you'll receive a $125 Amazon Gift Card on your account, along with access to a range of expense management tools.

8. The Platinum Card from American Express

The Platinum Card from American Express is a great all-rounder, offering an extensive list of travel benefits such as airport lounge access and complimentary elite status with Hilton and Marriott, along with annual statement credits for Uber and Saks. Although the card doesn't offer bonus points for Amazon purchases (unless the purchase is eligible for an Amex Offer), the very generous purchase protection of $10,000 per claim is excellent for customers who make lots of high-value Amazon purchases.

7. Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card from American Express

The Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card from American Express is a good option for Amazon purchases, offering 1 American Express Membership Rewards point per dollar spent on non-bonus category spending, including Amazon. Additionally, Amex Offers runs frequent bonus-point promotions on Amazon purchases that let you earn even more rewards per spend. Providing you make at least 30 purchases per billing period, Amex will throw a 50% points bonus your way.

6. Citi Double Cash Card

Recommend by businessinsider.com as one of the best credit cards for Amazon purchases, the Citi Double Cash Card offers a 2% cash back of all purchases you make at Amazon (and everywhere else for that matter), breaking down to 1% cash back at the time of purchase and 1% cash back when you pay your bill. There's no annual fee, a 0% introductory APR for 18 months on balance transfers, no confusing bonus categories to worry about, and a simple, straightforward earning structure that rewards you each and every time you use your card.

5. Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card

If you don't have Amazon Prime and don't buy enough products on Amazon that are eligible for Prime shipping to make membership worthwhile, you might want to take the advice of Value Penguin and consider an Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card. A 'light' version of the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, the card can be used to earn 3% cash back on all your Amazon.com purchases, 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores, and 1% on all other purchases. Once your application is approved, your Amazon.com account will be automatically loaded with a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

4. American Express Gold Card

If you make a lot of high-value purchases on Amazon, the American Express Gold Card makes a good choice. In addition to earning 1x Membership Rewards point per dollar on Amazon purchases, cardholders also benefit from a very generous purchase protection policy that offers a whopping $10,000 in protection per incident and up to $50,000 in total over one calendar year. If you want to increase your return on spending, use the card to buy Amazon gift cards in select supermarkets to earn 4x points per dollar spent, which translates to an 8% return. Additional benefits include up to $120 in dining credits per year at participating locations and up to $120 in Uber cash credits each year.

3. Discover It Cash Back

If the idea of earning cash back on all your Amazon Prime purchases appeals, you might want to consider the Discover It Cash Back. The earning rate is based on rotating categories, so there's no guarantee that Amazon will come around every quarter. However, when it does, you'll be able to claim 5% cash back on up to $1500 of Amazon purchases made using your Discover It card. Even when Amazon isn't a part of the quarterly cash-back bonus category, you'll still earn 1% cash back on your purchases. As an added bonus, Discover will match your rewards at the end of the first year of card membership.

2. Chase Freedom Unlimited

As The Points Guy says, if you're not a Prime subscriber but still want a solid return for your spend, the Chase Freedom Unlimited card is a great way to go. You'll earn 5% back on travel purchased through Chase, 3% cash back on drugstore purchases and dining, and 1.5% cash back on all other purchases. By pairing the card with a Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, you'll be able to convert your cash back points into transferable Ultimate Rewards points worth 2 cents each. The points can then be used for purchases on Amazon.com or for buying gift cards. As an additional benefit, the card offers both purchase protection and extended warranty protection.

1. Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card

If you're an existing Amazon Prime customer, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is hard to beat. There's no annual fee and cardholders will benefit from 5% cash back on all Amazon and Whole Foods purchases, along with 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores and 1% back on all other purchases. Once your application is approved, a $100 gift card will automatically be loaded onto your Amazon.com account. Additional benefits include purchase protection and extended warranty protection, along with all the usual Visa signature benefits.
